Thank you for an excellent account of Helensburgh past and present, and for posting the marvellous photos, especially the ones of Hermitage.
I left Scotland in 1966 and now live in New Zealand. When I made my first return trip to Scotland in 1999, I couldn't wait to make a trip to Helensburgh where my post primary education was at Hermitage — the principal in those day was Mr Bell.
You can imagine the disappointment to discove that beautiful old building was gone. Now, thanks to your website, I have a photo to show my grandchildren where I went to school.
