G'day from Down Under ...................

Friends recently put me on to the website which I found very interesting and came across many people in photographs that I knew. Had a good look through but have been unable to fill in any blanks.

I  am interested in the history of a building in Helensburgh which was in the 1890’s known as The Barracks. This building was in James Street, Helensburgh. Most probably the street number was 27.

I came upon your Heritage Website while 'googling' for information about a Garelochhead hotel. My great-uncle Angus Cameron was the proprietor of the hotel in the latter part of the 19th century, and ended his days in Garelochhead.

MY father, Donald Wolfe, moved our family to Helensburgh around 1965. We were there until about 1973.

He was the manager of Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company near Glasgow. My brothers and I went to Larchfield and St Bride's respectively. And when Freda McRory's riding stable was still going strong, that is where I spent all my spare time!

I have recently been looking into the history of the original Garelochhead Bus Company and its predecessors, with the eventual aim to put together a website.

My target is a website, but there is a considerable amount of work to be done before I would consider it a live website, especially regarding photographs etc.

My parents are both from Helensburgh and I and my family lived on the Naval Estate at Churchill for 10 years when I was based at Faslane — I played rugby for Helensburgh first team for those 10 years, preferring to play for Helensburgh rather than the Naval Base team.
