Centuries of slates from Luss

THE STORY of the quarries which for centuries covered the entire hillsides above Luss was told to Helensburgh Heritage Trust on Wednesday November 30.

The speaker at the Trust’s final open meeting of 2016 in Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre in East Clyde Street was Ian MacEachern, whose family has lived at Aldochlay south of Luss for several generations.

1st Helensburgh BB centenary marked

THE CENTENARY of the 1st Helensburgh Boys Brigade the previous day was celebrated at the second open meeting of Helensburgh Heritage Trust’s winter season on Wednesday October 26.

The speaker in the Marriage Room at Helensburgh and District Civic Centre on East Clyde Street was Trust chairman the Rev David Clark, a former BB member who has extensively researched local BB history in preparation for the centenary.

William Leiper's story told

AN ICONIC figure of Helensburgh’s past was the topic at Helensburgh Heritage Trust’s first ever meeting at the former Clyde Street School on Wednesday September 28.

The Trust began the new session of 2016-17 winter open meetings in the Marriage Room at the new Helensburgh and District Civic Centre, with some sixty members and guests attending.

Burgh origins discussed

THE beginnings of the town of Helensburgh was discussed at Helensburgh Heritage Trust’s final winter open meeting of 2015-16 on Wednesday evening.
