A NEW exhibition from the Anderson (Local Collection) Trust opens to the public in Helensburgh Library in West King Street on Saturday January 11.

The exhibition, which will remain open until June, encompasses two interests very close to the heart of its donor, Nance Anderson MBE: music and art.

A DVD made by Helensburgh Heritage Trust in 2014 to record memories of local people who were living in the area During World War Two was shown at a well attended meeting of the University of the Third Age in the Helensburgh Parish Church large hall on Monday December 9.

AS PART of Helensburgh's Winter Festival, Helensburgh Heritage Trust offered Town Centre Walks on Saturday November 30.

The walks started from outside the Victoria Halls at 10.30am, led by Stewart Noble, and at 2pm, led by Nigel Millar.

Stewart said: "It gave people a chance to see Helensburgh through a different pair of eyes!"

THIS is the painting visitors to the latest Anderson Trust Local Collection exhibition in Helensburgh Library in West King Street will not see.

The theme of the exhibition, which is open until June, is ‘Sea Lochs and Rivers”, and it had been hoped to include this work by Rhu artist Dr Charles Blatherwick RSW (1836-95) — who featured in Eye on Millig in the autumn.

HELENSBURGH Parish Church, which has stained glass windows dedicated to the inventor of television and a former British prime minister, is undergoing a near £300,000 makeover.

The project at the B-listed former West Kirk in Colquhoun Square follows awards of £190,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland.

THE Clyde Sea Lochs Trail from Dumbarton to Arrochar has been brought back to life, with new panels telling the story of the coastal communities.

The trail was first launched 15 years ago, but the information panels became faded or damaged, so local tourism group Love Loch Lomond decided to take action.

AN art collector who has just bought a second painting by ‘Glasgow Girl’ Bessie MacNicol would like to find out more about its Helensburgh history.

Last year Jim Smith bought Bessie’s 1904 work, ‘Lady with a Fan’, a portrait of a model known only as Deborah. Early in June he learnt that another painting by her, entitled ‘Margaret’, was going under the hammer at Great Western Auctions in Glasgow — and he made a successful bid.

TWO blocks of apartments built recently in Upper Sea Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, have been named Helensburgh Court and Baird Court.

Helensburgh Court (pictured) contains two-bedroom apartments going for some £150,000 each, and the adjacent Baird Court contains three-bedroom apartments at £175,000. Both were built by developer Laing Homes.
