Priscilla DorwardPriscilla Dorward
(1932 - 2024

Priscilla (Tindall) Dorward was born in1932 in Scotland and grew up in a large extended family.  Father, Andrew Tindell, was a medical practitioner, anesthetist and inventor;  mother, Violet, also came from a medical background.

On leaving school, Priscilla trained and worked as a commercial artist in Glasgow.  She married Ivor G. Dorward, an architect and civil engineer.  She stopped working during the early years of their three children’s childhood but, later, returned to set up and run her own printing company in Glasgow.

After the death of Ivor in 1987 Priscilla moved to Helensburgh, where she integrated happily in the lively community of artists and art lovers.  She was a friend of Anderson Trust Trustees Ailsa Tanner and Mary-Jane Selwood and took an active role in Helensburgh Art Club, for three years, acting as its chairman.  The years in Helensburgh were probably the most productive for Priscilla as a painter.  She was an accomplished artist of landscapes and portraits in her favoured medium of water colour and pastels, which she exhibited regularly in Helensburgh Art Club and Glasgow Society of Women Artists exhibitions.   In 2010  she moved to Wiltshire to live near her daughter where she continued to enjoy painting.  Her pastel portrait of Ailsa Tanner was a personal favourite of hers and not exhibited publicly.  Her gift of this picture to the Anderson Trust in 2011 is all the more warmly appreciated for its significance both to the Trust and to the artist herself.
