A History of Garelochhead event took place at the Gibson Hall, Garelochhead, on June 7 2015 from 1-4pm and was hosted by local historian and Helensburgh Heritage Trust director Alistair McIntyre.

Based on a talk he gave to Garelochhead SWRI, in the main it took the form of a series of displays with maps, photographs, documents and explanatory text.

Alastair McIntyre 25.03.15Some background was given to the growth of the village, but the emphasis was on businesses and services, such as shops, banks, hotels, and transport services. Many village shops operated as branches of Helensburgh-based enterprises.

Videos covering events at Garelochhead Station in celebration of the centenary of the West Highland Railway in 1994 were shown.

The proceeds went towards the upkeep of the Gibson Hall, which for some years has been in the hands of the community.
