stephen_park_gb_picHELENSBURGH man Stephen Park, manager of the British Olympic sailing team at Beijing, is to receive the OBE.

The award, announced in the New Year's Honours List and one of many for the highly successful Olympic team, is for services to sport.

Stephen, whose parents live in the town and who learned his sailing at Helensburgh Sailing Club, was at the helm in Beijing as the British team landed six medals – including four golds – and finished at the top of the sailing medal table.

It improved on the performance in Athens four years previously, where he was also the manager, when two gold, a silver and a bronze were collected.
