Hill-House-chair-wTWO pieces of furniture designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh may stay in Helensburgh’s Hill House.

Hill-House-lamp-wFunding has been secured by the National Trust for Scotland to purchase an armchair and standard lamp which have been in the living room for 110 years and are on loan to the National Trust for Scotland.

The Trust wants to buy the furniture to ensure that it stays at the Upper Colquhoun Street mansion.

Trust press officer Sarah Cuthbert-Kerr said: “We are really pleased to say that we have met our fundraising target, and we are about to start negotiations with the owners.”

The Trust has raised £100,000, with £25,000 from public donations and the rest from The Art Fund, The Monument Trust, and the National Museums Scotland Fund for Acquisitions.

Hill House property manager Lorna Hepburn said: “The drawing room where these items were lovingly placed 110 years ago is a favourite area for visitors and is definitely the most important interior space at the Hill House.

“The armchair and standard lamp are an integral part of the design of this room and add to the overall ‘wow’ factor for visitors.”
