Helensburgh Football Club is a community-based club and has a number of youth teams and an adult team. The club prides itself in not adopting a win at all costs mentality and encourages players of all abilities.
Ardencaple Football Club was established in 1968 and originally had only boys age group teams. Now it also fields an adult team.
Scottish Amateur League side Cardross Amateurs play at the village's Station Park.
Rhu Amateurs, based at Ardenconnel Park, currently play in the Caledonian League. The club's most famous achievement came on May 13 1967, when led by team coach Donnie Thomson, they won the highest honour in amateur football by claiming the Scottish Amateur Cup at Hampden in a 3-1 win against Penilee. It is one of Scotlands oldest amateur football clubs, with the earliest recorded fixture being against Garelochead on January 1 1896.
